Boxing is indeed one of the most dangerous games there are. Since the inception of this sport a number of great boxing matches have been fought between the top boxers of those times. The boxing game has produced some very great legends in the past 100 years. No matter what was their condition during the match, they always tried to put in their heart and soul into this devastating form of sport. It is quite evident that it is not easy to become a boxer. The focus of this top ten ranking is to show gratitude for some of the greatest boxing matches that have been fought in history.

10. Chris Eubank VS Nigel Benn I, November 18, 1990

At the time in which this match was fought both of the boxers were at the peak of their careers. Even before the match had started, a lot of drama had already taken place. From the start of the first round brutality and hatred was evident in both of them. After some great blows from both of the competitors, in the last it was Eubank who emerged successful in the ring to take the middleweight title of the world.


9. Julio Cesar Chavez VS Meldrick Taylor, March 17, 1990
The ending of this great match was indeed highly dramatic. The fans of both of these top boxers had very high expectations from them and were desperately waiting to see their champion win. From the start of the match Taylor had built the upper hand on Chavez. But everything changed in the last round, when Taylor suddenly fell to the ground because he was so exhausted. He finally got up and the referee asked him whether he would be able to go on or not, but Taylor gave no response. Finally, the referee declared Chavez as the winner. Taylor was indeed just 2 seconds away from glory.


8. Erik Morales VS Marco Antonio Barrera I, February 19, 2000
The people of Mexico are still proud of the kind of performances their countrymen had shown in this game which took place at the turn of the last century. Although they were both very slender, but the kind of performance they gave in the match was like those in the Heavyweight matches. Finally, after a number of exhausting rounds it was Morales who turned out be successful as the result of a split decision.


7. Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns, April 15, 1985
The kind of pace and boxing skills which these guys showed at the start of the very first round is remembered even today. It was truly an unforgettable display of brutality and endurance which these two players had shown in the match. The match didn’t reach the last round as they had already given their full potential to the starting rounds. Finally, it was Hagler who turned out to be successful as a result of a K.O in the third round. At the end of the match, Hearns was more like in a semi-consciousness state as he was taken out of the ring which indeed signifies the ferociousness of this extreme form of sport.


6. Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo, May 7, 2005
These two lightweight super boxers had indeed created a state of awe in all the people who had seen this match. The match continued for nine brutal rounds with a number of deadly and constant blows to each other. Although Corrales had been to the floor twice during the match, but surprisingly he showed a great deal of spirit and by using his all remaining energies landed numerous destructive shots on Castillo leaving him semi-conscious on the ropes. Corrales turned out successful.


5. Joe Louis vs. Billy Conn, June 18, 1941
This match between the legendary and unmatched heavyweight champion Louis and Billy Conn took place in the polo grounds. This match is indeed one of the greatest matches of all time. Till the last round of this match Conn had the upper edge, but in the last round he exposed his defenses and was knocked out with just 2 seconds remaining in the match. This is the moment which Conn never forgot.


4. Micky Ward vs Arturo Gatti I, May 18, 2002
The first fight which took place between these too super players is indeed memorable. It is also regarded as one of the fiercest fights ever to take place. The brutality between the two had continued nonstop for 10 rounds, but in the end it was Ward who finally turned out to be successful as a result of the majority decision. Emanuel Steward has declared the 9th round of this superb match as the best round of the century.  The fans also demanded a re-match between them which actually did take place, but it was not so entertaining in comparison to this match.


3. Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns, Sept. 16, 1981
This show down match took place in the early 80’s in the Caesar’s place. This fight between the two giants of boxing was a display of endurance, power, strategy and much more. Both of them were the most celebrated players of their times. The fans were on their feet the entire match which shows their expectations from both of them. The entire match showed the upper hand transition from one person to another, but finally it was Leonard who knocked the consciousness out of Hearns in the 14th round and emerged successful. Hearns has always repented for this defeat as before the knock out, he was leading in terms of the total score.


2. Jack Dempsey vs. Luis Angel Firpo, Sept. 14, 1923
At number 2 we have the great match which took place in the polo grounds. From the start of the match, Jack’s strategic blows had knocked out all the defenses which Luis had. In the match, Jack had floored his competitor 7 times and finally it was Jack who emerged successful in the 2nd round. This match was indeed very short and fast in terms of the knockdowns which had taken place. After the match, a lot of conspiracy was seen from the side of many analysts of the match who declared the win of Jack, as more like an unjust gift. This fight was indeed one of most historical fights that had ever taken place.


1. Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III, Oct. 1, 1975
This fight is indeed the best fight to have ever taken place in the entire history of heavyweight boxing. From the start of the match, both of them had displayed all they had learned in their entire career. All the rounds were brutal and ferocious in terms of the limitless blows which were delivered, but in the end it was Ali who turned out successful when in the 14th round Frazier’s trainer had thrown in the towel. After the match when Ali was interviewed he stated this match was indeed the deadliest of all his matches.
